JO BROCKLEHURST INSPIRED PUNK FASHION LIFEDRAWING
Jo Brocklehurst was a British fashion illustrator best known for documenting the underground punk scene of the 1970s and 1980s.
Born in the 1930s, Brocklehurst was notoriously elusive about her age, she took classes on and off at Central Saint Martins under the pioneering fashion illustrator Elizabeth Suter who would bring in eccentrically dressed models.
Brocklehurst attended New Romantic and Punk clubs in the late 70's and early 80's and drEw on location with a range of materials (having previously drawn Jazz musicians in smoky clubs over the preceeding decades).
Capturing the colourful characters she observed in bold and unapolagetic illustrations her work docuemted the underground counterculture, squats and fetish clubs of London, Berlin and New York as well as the scene connected to Central Saint Martins
Raw, sinewy and authentic her drawings have lead to her being described as the Egon Schiele of punk
In this Fashion Illustraiton Experience you are invited to explore the squats and punk clubs of the 1980s bought to life by iconic muse Yishu.
