FASHIONATOMY!!! Understand the fashion figure with LORETTA TEDESCHI-CUOCO
Picture this! You’re a passionate fashion illustrator and want to improve your figure drawing. You attend life-drawing sessions regularly. Great! Realising that drawing the figure is hard you decide to learn a bit more about anatomy. You pick up an anatomy book. It is full of diagram after diagram. Some of the skeleton, some of muscles. It feels like a medical text book and somehow not connected to the fluid and dynamic forms you want to sketch.
You usually draw feminine figures in graceful poses in the life-drawing sesh’s you attend, but the anatomy books and courses all focus on extremely muscle-y masculine figures. (why is this?)
Frustrated, you pic up one of your fashion magazines and sketch the images on the pages. This is fun, but a lot of the pictures don’t translate well to drawings and besides, you feel like you are simply copying, and not understanding the underlying form!

The FASHIONATOMY process!!!
Loretta leads us through sketching the nearly nude figure, directing us through the anatomy/movement.
Then placing a sheet of tracing paper on that drawing we do a fashion illustration of the same clothes pose, using simple line and shadow.
You will probably want to try this with some tracing paper!
Loretta’s preference is a Tombow Fudenosuke pen and a black prismacolor pencil. But if you don’t have these to hand you can use a pen and pencil of your choice!
